YASA Motors launches its latest high performance products – the YASA P400 Series – at the Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Technology (EV Tech Expo) show.
Smaller and lighter than any other motors in their performance range, the YASA P400 Series enables designers to implement higher power hybridisation and electrification without compromising critical vehicle space and weight. With the P400 Series, powerful and efficient full hybrid and electric powertrains can be implemented in the constrained spaces and weight limited environments that previously allowed for only less efficient mild hybrid designs.
The new P400 motor / generator series is based on the proven performance of the established YASA 400, and uses advanced materials and innovative construction techniques to provide motors that are not only the smallest and lightest in their class, but provide significantly reduced costs in serial production, especially for customers planning for higher volume production.
An important innovation of the P400 Series is the use of an engineering polymer housing for the motor stator, in place of the aluminum housing of other models. The low weight of the new polymer housing also helps to improve the overall motor performance. As a result, the P400 series is capable of producing up to 390Nm peak torque (300Nm continuous) and power of up to 180kW peak (100kW continuous), from dimensions of just 12.0 inches (305mm) diameter x 3.2 inches (80.4mm) axial length and a weight of less than 53lbs (24kg).
The high performance polymer material is strong, highly durable and light weight, and is already in common use in volume automotive applications. Importantly, the materials used in the P400 Series reduce both material cost and assembly time.
The P400 Series is available with a variety of different performance (torque / power / speed / current) characteristics, each optimised for different application requirements. Available mechanical formats include a cartridge type for project integration that is just 3.2 inches (80.4mm) in axial length, and other variants to match industrial protection requirements.
One model of the liquid cooled P400 Series also adds rotor air cooling into its advanced design, allowing unusually high continuous (constant) power and torque operation, while avoiding the complexities of additional cooling circuits. With up to 100 kW of constant, continuous power available with this option, this is ideal for power generation and high continuous torque usage such as winches, conveyors and generator applications.
In common with other YASA products, the P400 is able to operate as a mobile and variable speed generator as well as a traction motor for on or off road, rail and marine transport in hybrid or full electric mode. It also represents a compact and efficient alternative to hydraulic motors and starters.

The very high torque and power dense P400 Series motors are now available alongside the existing YASA range of motors.
