The Koenigsegg Regera – A 1500hp Hybrid Megacar
Unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the stunning Regera, represented the most powerful hybrid electric design seen in a production car at the time, with a staggering 1500hp.
The use of three YASA Axial Flux Motors in the Regera represent the most powerful hybrid electric design seen in a production car, providing up to 700bhp whilst significantly reducing vehicle weight
The Regera uses two direct drive YASA 750 Axial Flux motors delivering 1600Nm/360kW on the rear axle for traction, and a single engine speed YASA 400 Motor Generator Unit delivering 350Nm/160kW of electrical power generation, torque gap filling and starter motor functionality. Combined with the 1100hp, 5l twin-turbocharged V8 engine, it delivers more than 1500hp.

The Powertrain
Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD) completely replaces the combustion engine’s (ICE) traditional transmission / gearbox. Instead, KDD provides direct drive to the rear axle from the ICE without the need of multitude gears or variable transmissions, all of which have inherently high energy losses.
The three YASA axial flux electric motors are extremely power dense, making them a key ingredient for the KDD. Aside from providing extreme responsiveness from zero rpm, these electric motors also allow for torque vectoring, regenerative braking and energy conversion,
Koeningsegg CEO, Christian van Koenigsegg commented:
“YASA´s motors are extremely power dense, making them the key-ingredient for the direct drive system. The torque capability of the YASA motors combined with our world-leading engineering expertise has given the Regera an acceleration capability that is second to none”.
